Born from the ashes of guitarist CORY CLIFFORD’s former band, electrifying rock group LAVERNE has only been around for three years, but already has cemented themselves as a staple in the Chicago creative community. The band’s moniker comes from an intense binge-watching session of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, named after one of the starring actresses LAVERNE COX. The catchy and invigorating tracks of LAVERNE are a brilliant homage to their influences VAN MORRISON, ELVIS COSTELLO, and PATTI SMITH while still defining their own ambitious sound.
Tonight we welcome to the stage not only a an award winning singer, but also an acclaimed actress, animator, and producer—to name a few of BRITTANY CAMPBELL’s impressive pursuits. From a young age BRITTANY CAMPBELL has owned the stage, from being asked to be a part of The Metropolitan Opera as an elementary schooler to performing in renowned Broadway musical HAMILTON. She then began to pursue production and songwriting in her time as a Carnegie Mellon student. While her beginning projects were heavily pop-influenced, her later discography has transformed into a smooth, soulful collection of jazz and hip-hop influences.
Chicago punk band DAYMAKER offer a refreshing dose of authenticity in the often superficial industry of music production. The band’s messy musicianship is sloppy in all the right places, commenting on issues such as anti-gentrification through their raw, yet goofy lyricism and performance. A perfect mix of political commentary, pure emotion, and deliberate imperfection, DAYMAKER promises perhaps the most real performance you will see this year.
